Last night, the gaming world went nuts for a number of reasons following the first-look at Sony’s next-gen console, the PlayStation 5. One gauntlet chucking moment started off fairly early though, with the reveal of a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Upon initial reaction, naturally, fans of the previous Insomniac game and Miles were in awe at the new bit of tantalizing footage, but now it seems there’s more (or less) to this take on Spidey than we were led to believe. Check out the trailer in the player above.
Confirmed by The Telegraph, Spider-Man: Miles Morales will not be a standalone game, and instead, be an expansion for a remastered version of the original game. Given the add on levels that followed on from Spider-Man, the expectation is that we’ll be getting only a small morsel of Miles rather than a fully fleshed outplay, like its predecessor. This was however cleared right up by Sony’s VP head of European Business, Simon Rutter.
“I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game. There’s a substantial Miles Morales component – which is the expansion element – but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”The Telegraph
‘Substantial’ is the magic word to be taking away from this all. Given the advancements and capabilities the PS5 has (as coincidentally shown by the super-fast loading times with Spider-Man), Miles Morales could be a whopper of an expansion, as opposed to some deceptively small add-on. Expectations are already leading to comparisons with the likes of Infamous: First Light, which in itself was an impressively large expansion to the game that preceded it. We can take a leap of faith that regardless of what comes, Miles gets the time he deserves and hopefully a further future in one of PlayStation’s exclusive franchises.
