Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it, which explains that even after 17 years, poor Chuckie Finster should know helping out Angelica will cause nothing but bother. No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. That really is the fresh new look of two iconic Rugrats in a brand new series that’s set to arrive this year
Announced yesterday by Nickelodeon, the classic characters and the voice talents behind them will be returning in an all-new Rugrats show set to debut on Paramount Plus, another streaming service to empty your wallet and fill up your watchlist this month.
Originally airing between 1991 and 2004, Rugrats followed a band of adventurous babies who got up to all sorts of trouble because, for some reason, not a single parent on the show had a baby cam setup. Head of operations was Tommy Pickles, backed by his best mate Chuckie and twins Phil & Lil, with Tommy’s cousin Angelica constantly demonstrating what a nightmare kid looks like. Thankfully, Susie eventually showed up somewhere down the line and was a nicer big kid than the biscuit- obsessed brat. Check out the first clip of what’s in store below.
The show will see E.G. Daily (Tommy), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie), Cheryl Chase (Angelica), Cree Summer (Susie) and Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil) are all back for a playdate as their respective characters. Speaking about the new revival Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation, is very happy about it all.
“Rugrats is one of the most iconic cartoons recognized by fans around the globe, and this original version is one we are taking great care and pride in creating for a brand-new audience. Having the voice cast behind these special characters come together is one of the essential pieces to making the show recognizable, and we can’t wait to watch this talented group bring them to life again.”
There’s no confirmed launch date for the series or service in the U.K., but Paramount Plus will be going live in the U.S. on March 4. Get your toy screwdrivers ready.
