Pixar is set to give us some Italian flavour this year, and they’ve given us a taste today with a brand new poster for their fishy new feature film, Luca. Caked in that classic Pixar sky blue, the one-sheet has surfaced online in anticipation of the first trailer arriving tomorrow.
Directed by Enrico Casarosa, Luca will mark his debut, helming a feature length film under the Pixar lamp, after heading up star-lit short La Luna (check it out on Disney+) and also working as a storyboard artist on the likes of Ratatouille, Up, and Coco. Luca sounds like a project very close to Casarosa’s heart, taking from chapters of the director’s own life growing up in Genoa.
Speaking about the movie back in July last year, Casarosa said in a statement…
“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become, and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in ‘Luca. So, in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”
Currently, there are no voice talents linked to the film as of yet. The story itself centres on a young boy named Luca and his unforgettable summer on the Italian Riviera. It’s made all the more magical with the addition of a newfound best-friend who happens to have a dark secret; he’s a sea monster from deep below the ocean.
It is indeed a fishy tale, and one that we’ll hopefully see more of when a new trailer for the film arrives tomorrow.
